You’ve probably been hearing a lot about Meghan Sussex’s (not Meghan Markle) new Netflix series lately, and if you’re here, I’m guessing you loved it as much as I did. With Love, Meghan was full of warmth, elegant hosting ideas, mouth watering foods, and that perfect touch of cottagecore charm.
With season 2 not out until autumn, you might be looking for something to fill the Meghan-shaped void. Here, I am offering five Black-authored book suggestions that capture Meghan’s essence. Let me know if you have read any of them!
1. The Kiss Countdown – Etta Easton

The Kiss Countdown is a charming romance that follows an astronaut and a recently unemployed, newly single events planner who agree to a three-month fake dating arrangement to solve both of their problems. What starts as a practical solution quickly turns into something much deeper, resulting in a heartwarming, family-centred story bursting with Black excellence. It’s wholesome, full of charm, and the perfect feel-good read.
2. The Light We Carry – Michelle Obama

Meghan hasn’t had the easiest time with the media, and if there’s one person who would completely understand that, it’s Michelle Obama. I’ve always admired the way she navigates challenges with warmth and grace — an energy that shines through in her books. The Light We Carry is filled with the former First Lady’s wisdom, offering readers strategies for finding a sense of connection, community, and joy even in difficult times. That spirit of quiet resilience is something I see reflected in Meghan as well, making this a perfect read for anyone who loves her approach to life.
3. The Royal Holiday – Jasmine Guillory

If Meghan’s love story captured your heart, The Royal Holiday might be for you. This novel follows Vivian, who travels to England and finds herself sharing a kiss with a high-ranking member of the royal household under the mistletoe. If you’re in the mood for a light hearted romance (and scones), this one delivers in the best way.
4. You Are Your Best Thing – Edited by Tarana Burke & Brené Brown

You Are Your Best Thing is a powerful collection of essays on Black joy, healing, and resilience, curated by Tarana Burke and Brené Brown. These deeply personal reflections explore self-worth, vulnerability, and what it means to navigate the world as a Black person. It is one of my favourite collections. Meghan has participated in many speaking engagements and projects that tackle similar themes, from identity and mental health to empowerment and social change. If you want to explore her reflective and advocacy-driven side, this book is a perfect Meghan match.
5. From Pasta to Pigfoot – Frances Mensah Williams

For food, travel, and identity, I’ve chosen the romance From Pasta to Pigfoot. This novel follows Faye, a British Ghanaian woman on a journey of self-discovery as she searches for where she truly belongs. With a food-loving protagonist and a story that embraces travel, this book is a perfect pick if you admire Meghan’s love of exploring different cultures and immersing herself in new experiences.
If With Love, Meghan left you feeling inspired, uplifted, and craving more heartwarming content, these books will bring that same positive energy into your reading life. And if you’re still looking for more, I’ve also created a With Love, Meghan-inspired Pinterest board filled with cosy, feel-good inspiration. You can check it out here!
